There is no rule to the size a bridal party should be.  Traditionally, a formal wedding would have 12 attendents and an informal wedding would have 3 attendents.  

Although it may not be proper etiquette, I have seen a new trend of handing out pre-printed thank you cards to wedding guests at the reception instead of mailing cards after the wedding.
