2008 Results of the Toilet Paper Wedding Dress Contest

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

Sponsored by cheap-chic-weddings.com, the competition features some fabulous dresses made from the common toilet paper. I can’t believe these dresses were made out of paper. I would have loved to see all of the 564 entries after seeing these ones…WOW!!

The winner was Katrina Chalifoux of Rockford, Illinois.

Katrina spent over 2 weeks creating this wedding dress. It has a raised flower pattern made from molded toilet paper.

August 8, 2008 The Wedding Date of the Year?

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

August 8, 2008 is less than one month away and is said to be the most popular wedding date for 2008. Why? Well, for the same reasons July 7, 2007 was last year. Among the list, the most popular reason is that the date is easy to remember and looks nice on an invitation. Last year we saw many different cultures getting married on the 7th of July, mostly because the number 7 represented luck. We see the same this year. For the Chinese culture the number 8 is very lucky. So to get married on 888 will only triple your luck.

I found some interesting and amazing facts when researching for this blog, thought I would share some would you. The following came from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Numbers_in_Chinese_culture.

” in Chinese (Pinyin: bā) sounds similar to the word which means “prosper” or “wealth” ( - short for “发财”, Pinyin: fā). In regional dialects the words for “eight” and “fortune” are also similar, eg Cantonese “baat” and “faat”.

There is also a resemblance between two digits, “88″, and the shuang xi (’double joy’), a popular decorative design composed of two stylized characters 喜 (xi, ‘joy’, ‘happiness’).

Telephone number 8888-8888 was sold for USD$270,723 in Chengdu, China.

The Summer Olympics in Beijing are scheduled to open on 8/8/08 at 8:08:08 p.m.[2]

A man in Hangzhou offered to sell his license plate reading A88888 for 1.12 million yuan.[2]‘

This year this popular date falls on a Friday. Has this stop this date from being choosen? No, not a chance! Bridal couples picked this date regardless of the day. Friday weddings tend to be less expensive, since Saturday weddings have normally been the norm. So perhaps some of these couples were lucky enough to get a discount or two while planning their wedding. This date, I believe is perfect for a wedding date because the number 8 on its side becomes the symbol for infinity or endlessness. Absolutely perfect for representing the beginning of a couple’s life as man and wife.

If you are invited to a 888 wedding you may see;

1) 8 attendants and 8 bridesmaids

2) 8 different flowers that make up the bridal bouquet

3) 8 different desserts

4) have an 8 course meal

5) the ceremony may take place at 8:08pm

6) have 8 different items or flowers that make up the centrepieces.

I can’t wait to see what 999 will bring to us next year. If you are planning your wedding for September 9, 2009, you can incorporate these sort of idea in your planning.
